Locks of Love

Except for me, our family is pretty unmaterialistic. (I'm still working on it.) When it comes to giving gifts most of them will opt for something meaningful and sentimental rather than expensive and impressive. Ben's new bride Teresa is certainly following in that tradition.

Recently she appeared at family brunch with a startling haircut. Teresa hasn't cut her hair more than an inch or two for many years. Despite pleas from friends and family she chose to keep it long and wear it simply for her wedding. But she had a plan.

After the wedding she donated over a foot of her luxurious mop to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides wigs for low-income children who have lost their own hair due to disease---such as cancer or alopecia areaca. It was, Teresa said, a way to share her good fortune and happiness.

At that moment we couldn't have been prouder of her...and she couldn't have looked more beautiful.

Lucy That is the grandest gift Teresa could have given and she was motivated by love and her own happiness.

Reminds me of the old O. Henry story "The Gift of the Magi"

Lucy, my dear...Thanks for the visit and all your dear kind words of encouragement about these stupid health issues....I am much better...and can see the light at the end of the tunnell...Thank God!

I think that is just terrific that she cut off her hair for this great organization....I have read about them before and that is such a very wonderful thing to do...that's concrete, you know? You KNOW it is going to a child who really is in need....No wonder you are so very proud of her...

I'm very familiar with this organization, having seen it on the Today Show, where Ann Curry had her hair cut on the show in order to donate it.
Wow! Teresa sure did have LONG hair in the wedding photo. And 14 inches gone! What a great thing to do and she looks terrific with it shorter.

Good for her and thanks for the link. Now if my hair would just grow back I would donate it. I wonder if I could get by with just saying that I did and that's why I ain't got no hair. I used to tell people I kept it worn off on the headboard of the bed but at my age now they just think I am telling a lie.

I seem to remember quite a few blogs back when you were worrried about what to wear to the wedding. You certainly chose well because you looked lovely.
I have two young friends who have donated their hair and know of one youngster who was on the receiving line...so I can attest to it being a great cause. It shows great character to do that! Please congratulate her for me.

Locks of Love is a wonderful organization and so sweet of Teresa to cut 14 inches of her beautiful hair to give it as a gift of happiness to someone who will really benefit from the gift.

You have a wonderful family and thank you for sharing these beautiful moments with all of us.

14 inches gone, and she still has plenty! Thats a wonderful gift, and will mean so much to those who need it. Now, if mine weren't grey underneath and bleached on top... well, it probably still wouldn't grow long enough.

Forgive me Lucy for i have sinned - it's been atleast 1 week since i have last visited. Life has a way of taking me away from blogging somedays.

Thoroughly enjoyed the picture recap of the wedding. What a fabulous job you did. And Kudos to Theresa for her donation.
