I Love you...I Don't Love You

Jack and Carole spent most of last week on a romantic holiday somewhere that despite my best efforts, remains a mystery to me (and everybody else). The kids announced they would be invisible/unavailable to all of us---and unreachable except in the case of asphyxiation, amputation or embolism. Even then I was just supposed to leave a message.

However, I didn't mind too much as I was having a lovely romantic interlude with my new computer. Alas, like many new relationships, we hit a rocky patch. I became increasingly frustrated while the computer grew ever more mysterious and unresponsive. Finally it shut down completely and refused to communicate despite my well-documented persuasiveness.

Did I dare call Jack? I wondered. None of my limbs were missing or visibly out of place...I wasn't lying helpless on the floor and there were no discernible gas leaks or other unwelcome intruders in our house. Well, to make a long story short, my higher character prevailed and I left them alone. But my computer was not impressed. It still wouldn't work----and didn't until Jack walked through the door at which point it lay down on its back and put its feet in the air.

So make me a liar. This technology today is beyond me. No wonder altecachers like me get frustrated and give up. Everybody else is adding all kinds of wonderful features to their blogs and I'm still wrestling with Blogger dashboard. But I shall prevail. I shall not allow my computer to patronize and abuse me. I will demand the same respect as I get from my furniture. And I'll never let Jack and Carole go away alone again.

Lucy !!!!! I am glad it was only the computer that went feet up on the floor and not you. Whew- You gave me a fright. :)

I am in the same boat as you. All I can do on my blog is plain text, no fancy photos or videos. Just the facts, Ma'am.

Blogger gave me a hard time a few days ago but it finally behaved itself. IMO blogger needs a bit of improving but what do I expect from a free service.

    Take care.

lucy, lucy, your description of your relationship with the computer requires no pictures, no whistles. words work!

i know that every time i decide to do something MORE with the blog there's a payoff ahead: time, aggravation. you reassure many of us by keeping it relatively uncomplicated.

I hear you Lucy....and I feel your pain. We are at their mercy. What a BAD place to be. I HATE relying on others to fix my computer problems; but there's just some places I can't go to. I personally think I've learned a lot...I just don't want smoke coming out of the top of my head before someone says...."Ooops, we pushed her a little too far."

Its not you, its not your computer, its BLOGGER. I escaped them not long ago, and four months later, I STILL have not heard from support.

Well...that damn Computer and it's temprement!!! Screw It!!
Don't they have a simpler...Turn it on..Type....Turn it off type of machine? Or one that you can Bark Orders at? Ask Jack! I bet they have something for people who have disabilities that won't allow them to use their fingers or toes...!
If they don't have that, they should! Ask Jack!!!
And yes, tell him he is NOT allowed to go away ever again! (lol)

So glad to find you NDY!

Getting a new computer is like moving house...it takes quite some time to get used to the location of the light switches and put the sofa in exactly the right spot. They've got some nerve, leaving you at a time like this!

Funny story and I feel the same way about them-- computers that is. They can be so frustrating and like to tweak those of us who are not techies.

It's not just new computers. Blogger has done some wierd things lately. Today I was wondering if it was having sympathy pains because of the date. It kept telling me that the document had no data, and then doing what I asked anyway.

Lucy...I, too, have a love/hate affair with my computer. And doesn't it just kill you when the younger generation seems to merely walk into the room and it's fixed? I have the same feeling with my cell phone (used for emergencies only). My 17 year old grandaughter can add and delete numbers, play games, etc. etc. (on MY little phone) and I tense up just turning it on or off !!

I think this blogging thing would be much more fun and filled with much more anticipation if we all just went back to letters and post office boxes. :)

Glad your computer is pumping blood again Lucy. You are truly missed.

Go with them and bring the computer! It's dreadful living with a THING the makes you feel dumb or inferior. We're supposed to be the finest specimen on the planet and look at all we can't do! I'm sure that that is not good for mental health. There are those who refuse to even look at a computer. Maybe they are the wise ones.

I'm not very computer saavy either. I just do a few things, and the rest remains a mystery to me.
I hope you conquer all your computer challenges, with a little help from Jack, of course.
I hope they had a nice time away. Just inform them that that was their last getaway!

Oh...poor Lucy! It IS very frustrating....all this tech stuff. BUT, I love your attitude. You will prevail, so good for you! But believe me, I'll be the first to say....it can be beyond frustrating.
Strange enough...my blog for tomorrow is about tech stuff. But us Pisces....we keep plodding along. It's what we do best, right Lucy?

How patient are you, Lucy, to wait until Jack came home? If that was me I would have been saying, "can you tell we what to do over the phone?" But Jack is a treasure and I'm glad you are not easily daunted. We look forward to your posts and it's good to know that one way or another you're going to write a blog and get it posted. Perhaps now that your computer is tamed and domesticated, it will behave itself the way it should.

    Hi Lucy

I always enjoy whatever you blog about but this one takes the cake. Did you hear me laughing?

How many people who read your blog know what "altecachers" means. I don't think that word is in the dictionary but maybe they got the drift!

I'm lucky I have Steve who is a very busy guy but he
helps me out when I am in a jam or in a pickle.

Like Terri said, "all this tech stuff can be frustrating but you will prevail" Me too.

We HAVE to demand respect, Lucy, or we will never get any!!

Sorry about the computer. Mine is temperamental sometimes too.

HeHeHe - Well your computer definitely has a better vocabulary than mine - it only knows 4 letter words. I threaten it daily - i'm a bad mother. You on the other hand are just a frustrated mother...

Here's to keeping your computer right side up & Jack on call 24X7 - i need a daily/weekly dose of Lucy.

Geez Lucy, don't be so hard on yourself. Your're leaps and bounds ahead technologically of many who are half your age!
Glad you're back. I have missed your posts.

    Hi Lucy,

I can understand your frustrations here!
Computers are a complete mystery to me. As much as I love them I will NEVER understand them!

As for adding anything new....I plan to stick with what I know of blogger-dashboard- as long as I can! I hate change!

...but if we have interesting things to say- isn't that the most important thing! :)

I too have faced the frustrations of computers that like to bully. Those of us who blog have all stood up to our computers giants and like David pelted them with stones from our sling-shots.. . and occasionaly have won great victories.

So here is to you, Dear Lady, and to your slingshot and your supply of rocks. May you always be victorious and may you never face speaking to a technician who is still practicing English as a second language.

lol Lucy! I do understand completely! I just got a new (to me, anyway) computer in June & believe me when I tell you that I feel your pain! But count your blessings, girlfriend! At least you have Jack!!! I have to call my ex-hubby if my puter goes nuts! Fortunately, we're relatively cordial these days but I still prefer that we keep our distance! I hope that the repairs were relatively simple & that by now you're adjusting nicely!

Glad to see you back from the front old top -- remember that? -- which, as kids, we accompanied with hand gestures to whomever we were speaking in fun.

Glad Millie brought up "altecachers - like me." Yeah, I think I got the drift, but, would you mind defining the word, 'cause it sure isn't in my dictionary and if it's Yiddish, the book store I was in yesterday didn't have a Yiddish dictionary, 'cause I looked for one, coincidentally, before having read this post.

I know what you mean....my 4 year old grandson can do more with the computer than I can. Very frustrating. I still haven't changed my blog look -- I would have to retire to find the time. I find the Mac soooo much easier, but not as great on the blog interfaces.

Computers can drive one crazy, I know that for a fact. Not sure about altecachers, something to do with old, but what are cachers? The only thing which occurs to me is something like 'old farts'... Am I being rude? ;) Please let me know what it means. You know how much I love words.
Anyway, show the puter who the master is! and Blogger does make mistakes too. They were down for at least an hour this morning, preventing me from visiting my blogging friends and leaving comments!

    Hi to all

I had another big laugh this morning regarding the word "altecachers". Claude is on the right track - alte = old - that's right.

Now for the word "cachers" - now, how can I put it delicately - that's a person who goes #2 in the bathroom,

The essence of the word "altecachers" means someone who has been around for a long time.

That should give all of you a good laugh!! ;')

When I read the word 'altecachers' I figured you were having computer problems, but then I saw my mom's comment and realized that it's Yiddish!

    Oy Vey!

    Lucy, my dear dear...

I'm back. I so want you to visit my blog and see some of my paintings that I have posted...

We "alta's" (lol) have to stick together, my dear....Gee, I hope all is well with you and your damn NEW computer....! "NEW" is not always better, is it? Well, I'm hoping that in this case...this new computer of yours is making things deeply easy for you.

Prayers are being chanted as I write this!
